Previously, I laid out the enchanting realm of gluten-free dining at Disney’s table service restaurants. But are there safe gluten-free quick-service restaurants? Are there safe havens for gluten-free diners amidst the hustle and bustle of quick bites and on-the-go meals?
While some cynics say absolutely not, I’m not one of them. Walt Disney World offers a wide variety of quick-service food allergy options. Let’s look deeper into gluten-free Disney, embarking on a journey through the top 10 gluten-free quick-service restaurants. The following 10 spots are where flavor meets safety and every bite is a culinary adventure.
FOOD ALLERGY MOBILE ORDERING: HOW-TO
Mobile Ordering in the My Disney Experience app has become quite popular. Even more good news, it is possible to order with food allergies. If you’re like me, and only have a gluten allergy, it is SUPER simple to mobile order. This makes gluten-free quick-service dining incredibly easy. But what about multiple or complex allergies?
Tips: Food Allergy Mobile Order
- Check for Allergy Menus: Before placing your mobile order, check if the restaurant offers allergy menus. These menus provide detailed information about allergens present in each menu item. First thing to remember: If there is no allergy menu on the mobile order screen, don’t even try it!
- Simple Allergies? Go for it!: If you have a single, common food allergy (e.g., gluten, dairy), mobile ordering is a breeze. Simply select items marked safe for your allergy and proceed to checkout.
- Complex Allergies? Talk to a Manager: For guests with multiple allergies or allergies outside the top 8 (such as sesame, soy, mustard, etc), it’s best to speak directly with a manager at the restaurant. They can ensure your meal is safely prepared and all your dietary needs are met.
- Communicate Clearly: When ordering, be specific about your needs to ensure they are understood.
- Double-Check Your Order: Before finalizing your order, double-check that all the items selected are safe for your allergies. Reviewing your order can prevent accidental exposure to allergens.
- Be Prepared to Wait: If you have allergies, be prepared for a longer wait time. Your meal may take longer to prepare as the staff ensures it is safely made. This happens even with mobile orders. If you have hangry co-travelers, I suggest ordering their meals separately so they won’t have to wait as long.
- Be Courteous and Patient: Remember, the staff is there to help you have a safe dining experience. Be patient and courteous when discussing your allergies and needs. In short, the longer they take, the more comfortable I feel that they’re doing their best to make my meal safely.
