Why Use a Travel Advisor? The Benefits of Working with an Inclusive Travel Expert

Discover the benefits of using a travel advisor for family vacations, cruises, autism-friendly travel, LGBTQIA+ travel, and accessible travel planning

Travel Isn’t One-Size-Fits-All

Planning a vacation should be exciting, not overwhelming.

Yet many travelers find themselves buried in online reviews, conflicting advice, endless Facebook groups, changing travel policies, and hundreds of options that all seem to blur together.

Anybody can book a vacation online but booking a vacation and planning the right vacation are two very different things.

Whether you’re planning a Disney vacation, Universal Orlando getaway, cruise, all-inclusive resort stay, family reunion, or LGBTQIA+-friendly escape, the choices can quickly become overwhelming.

That’s where a travel advisor comes in.

A travel advisor helps you navigate choices, avoid costly mistakes, save time, reduce stress, and create a vacation tailored to your unique needs, interests, and priorities.

And for families, neurodivergent travelers, LGBTQIA+ travelers, and multigenerational groups, that personalized guidance can make all the difference.

What Does a Travel Advisor Do?

l advisors simply book hotels and flights, but the reality is very different.

As a professional travel advisor, I help:

  • Match you with the right destination
  • Recommend resorts, cruise lines, and accommodations
  • Monitor promotions and pricing
  • Provide destination expertise
  • Coordinate travel logistics
  • Help navigate accessibility needs
  • Advocate for you when issues arise
  • Save you time researching options
  • Offer guidance before, during, and after travel

I believe the best travel advisors become trusted travel partners, not just booking agents.

The Day a Delayed Flight Became an Extra Vacation Day

I had a client that sat on the tarmac all day waiting for their flight to take off, before ultimately having to deplane because the flight was cancelled. It was just late enough in the day, too, that there were no flights left going out that day. While they worked with their airline to get new flights, I was able to work with the suppliers to extend their vacation by one day and even applied promos to get them extra days for free. That’s the difference between booking a vacation and having a travel advisor in your corner.

Benefits of Using a Travel Advisor

1. Personalized Vacation Planning

The best vacation isn’t the most expensive one, it’s the one designed around your family, your priorities, your budget, and your travel style.

I always take the time to understand:

  • Who is traveling
  • What experiences matter most
  • Accessibility needs
  • Dietary restrictions
  • Sensory considerations
  • Budget expectations
  • Travel concerns and anxieties
  • Celebration moments

A vacation is an investment, and your vacation should suit you, not the other way around.

2. Expert Guidance and Industry Knowledge

Travel advisors spend countless hours researching destinations, suppliers, cruise lines, resorts, and travel trends. Many even spend hours in training sessions and in-destination to make sure they have answers to questions you haven’t yet considered.

I stay informed about:

  • New cruise ships
  • Resort renovations
  • Theme Park updates
  • Entry requirements and Visa requirements
  • Travel advisories
  • Accessibility changes
  • Seasonal events
  • Special promotions

Instead of spending hours researching online, you gain access to my professional expertise tailored to your trip.

3. Time Savings

Let’s face it: travel planning can feel like a second job. Researching destinations, comparing hotels, tracking prices, reading reviews, and understanding policies can take dozens of hours.

I do the heavy lifting for you. Instead of spending dozens of hours researching, comparing, and second-guessing yourself, you’ll receive recommendations tailored to your needs, travel style, and budget.

Think of it as having a personal travel researcher, planner, and advocate working behind the scenes so you can focus on the excitement of the trip instead of the stress of planning it.

4. Advocacy When Things Go Wrong

Travel is wonderful, but sometimes ship happens.

Flights get canceled.
Weather impacts itineraries.
Cruise schedules change.
Unexpected situations arise.

When you book everything yourself, you’re often left navigating customer service lines alone, but when you work with a travel advisor, you have someone who already knows your trip and can help advocate on your behalf.

Why Having an Advocate Matters

I had clients once traveling to Costa Rica. When they arrived in their layover location, all remaining flights to Costa Rica had been cancelled for a week, so they would likely not arrive before their check out day. So they decided to head home. While they were in line trying to find a flight back home, I was able to get all of their money back for their now-cancelled trip, leaving them with the peace of mind of knowing they didn’t lose $10K+. This is why you need travel advisors!

Why Inclusive Travel Planning Matters

Many travelers need more than generic travel advice. They need a travel professional who understands their unique concerns and experiences.

That’s especially true for:

  • Neurodivergent travelers
  • Autistic travelers
  • Travelers with sensory sensitivities
  • Travelers with food allergies
  • LGBTQIA+ travelers
  • Solo Travelers (especially women)
  • Travelers with accessibility needs
  • Multigenerational families

That’s where I come in!  The details that matter most to these travelers are often the details online booking engines never mention.

Why Work With Me as Your Travel Advisor?

You have plenty of options when choosing a travel advisor, but I am not just any travel advisor.  Here’s what makes my approach different.

I Understand Travel From Personal Experience

Long before I became a travel advisor, I was navigating travel as a parent of an autistic child.

For nearly two decades, I’ve personally researched sensory-friendly attractions, managed food allergies and picky eaters while traveling, navigated accessibility concerns, prepared for travel anxiety, and learned how to adapt vacations to meet the needs of real families.

That lived experience shapes every recommendation I make.

I understand that a vacation isn’t successful simply because it looks good in a brochure. It’s successful when every traveler feels comfortable, supported, included, and able to enjoy the experience.

The advice I provide isn’t theoretical, it’s based on real-world travel experience, professional training, and years of helping families create vacations that truly work for them.

Autism Travel Planning Expertise

As a Certified Autism Travel Professional (CATP), I have specialized training in supporting autistic and neurodivergent travelers.

I help families identify:

  • Sensory-friendly experiences
  • Quiet spaces
  • Disability Access Services
  • Autism-friendly cruise options
  • Theme Park accessibility resources
  • Travel preparation strategies
  • Accommodation considerations

Because every neurodivergent traveler is different, I focus on understanding your specific needs rather than relying on one-size-fits-all recommendations.

Every traveler deserves a vacation that feels comfortable, accessible, and enjoyable.

LGBTQIA+ Travel Support

As a member of the Safe Space Alliance, I believe travel should feel welcoming, safe, and affirming.

I am proud to help LGBTQIA+ travelers identify destinations, resorts, cruises, and experiences where they can focus on making memories, not worrying about whether they’ll feel accepted.

I understand that feeling safe and welcome can be just as important as finding the perfect resort or itinerary. Whether you’re planning a romantic getaway, family vacation, honeymoon, or group trip, I help identify destinations and travel experiences where you can focus on enjoying your vacation and being yourself.

I Focus on the Right Vacation, Not the Most Expensive One

My goal isn’t to sell you the highest-priced package, it’s to help you create the best vacation for your needs and budget.

Sometimes that means recommending upgrades.

Sometimes it means helping you save money by skipping things you don’t need.

The right vacation is always more important than the most expensive vacation.

I Become Your Travel Partner

When I work for you, you’re not handed off to a call center. Instead, you’ll have one dedicated point of contact throughout the planning process.

Someone who gets to know your family, understands your priorities, and advocates for you when unexpected situations arise. Most importantly, someone who genuinely cares about helping you create meaningful travel memories.

What It’s Like to Work With Travel by Danielle

Every traveler is different, which means every planning experience should be different, too.

When we work together, we’ll start with a conversation about your travel goals, budget, priorities, concerns, and wish list.

From there, I’ll research options, present recommendations tailored to your needs, answer your questions, and guide you through the entire planning process.

You’ll never be treated like a booking number or handed off to a call center.

You’ll have a dedicated travel advisor who gets to know you, understands what matters most to you, and helps ensure your vacation feels as stress-free and enjoyable as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions About Working With a Travel Advisor

Do travel advisors cost extra?

Yes and no.

Many travel advisors are compensated by suppliers through commissions that are already built into the cost of your vacation. Whether you use a travel advisor or book directly, that commission is typically already included in the price.

I also charge a $100 research and planning fee. This fee represents a mutual partnership: I work for you, and you trust my expertise to help create the best possible vacation for your needs.

That planning fee allows me to dedicate time to researching options, answering questions, providing personalized recommendations, monitoring promotions, and helping you navigate the planning process from start to finish.

My goal isn’t simply to book a vacation—it’s to help you book the right vacation.

Can I still plan parts of my trip myself?

Absolutely!

Some of my clients plan every minute of their vacation themselves. Others prefer guidance every step of the way. Most fall somewhere in between.

My level of involvement is completely up to you.

Think of me as your travel partner. If you want help selecting the perfect cruise, resort, or destination but want to handle the day-to-day planning yourself, that’s perfectly fine. If you’d like recommendations, advice, and support throughout the entire process, I’m happy to help with that too.

It’s your vacation. I’m here to support you however you need.

What if I have food allergies or dietary restrictions?

You’re speaking my language.

As someone who personally navigates Celiac disease and has extensive experience helping travelers with food allergies and dietary restrictions, I understand how overwhelming dining concerns can feel while traveling.

While I can’t guarantee what suppliers will or won’t accommodate, I can help you understand what to expect, how to communicate your needs, and what resources are available before you travel.

Whether you’re gluten-free, managing food allergies, vegetarian, vegan, or have other dietary concerns, I’ll help you feel more confident and prepared before you leave home.

Do you help first-time cruisers?

Absolutely—and honestly, first-time cruisers are some of my favorite clients!

Cruising can feel overwhelming when you’re trying to understand cruise lines, cabin categories, dining options, shore excursions, gratuities, drink packages, embarkation day, and all the other cruise terminology.

I’ll help you understand your options, avoid common mistakes, and choose the cruise experience that best fits your travel style and budget.

Fair warning, though: cruising can be addictive. My unofficial mission is to convert everyone into cruise lovers.

Can you help autistic and neurodivergent travelers?

Yes.

As a Certified Autism Travel Professional (CATP) and parent of an autistic young adult, supporting neurodivergent travelers is one of my specialties.

I can help identify sensory-friendly experiences, accessibility resources, quiet spaces, Disability Access Services, autism-friendly cruise options, and travel preparation strategies that may help make travel feel more comfortable and enjoyable.

Every autistic traveler is different, so my goal is never to make assumptions. Instead, I work with families and travelers to understand their specific needs and help create a vacation that works for them.

What if someone in my family has sensory sensitivities?

Sensory needs are often one of the most overlooked aspects of travel planning.

Crowds, noise, lighting, transportation, waiting in lines, unfamiliar environments, and schedule changes can all impact the travel experience.

I can help you identify destinations, accommodations, attractions, and planning strategies that may help reduce sensory overwhelm and make travel more enjoyable for everyone involved.

Can you help LGBTQIA+ travelers find safe and welcoming destinations?

Absolutely.

As a member of the Safe Space Alliance, I believe everyone deserves to travel confidently and authentically.

I help LGBTQIA+ travelers identify destinations, resorts, cruises, tours, and experiences where they can feel welcomed, respected, and celebrated.

Travel should be about creating memories—not worrying about whether you’ll feel comfortable being yourself.

Do you only help families?

Not at all.

While many of my clients are families, I also work with couples, solo travelers, friend groups, LGBTQIA+ travelers, multigenerational families, and travelers with accessibility needs.

Whether you’re planning a romantic getaway, girls’ trip, cruise vacation, family reunion, or solo adventure, I can help create a travel experience tailored to your goals.

Do I have to be autistic or have accessibility needs to work with you?

Not at all.

While I specialize in autism-friendly, neurodivergent, accessible, and LGBTQIA+ travel, I work with all kinds of travelers.

Many of my clients simply want personalized vacation planning, expert guidance, and a trusted advocate throughout the travel process.

Whether you’re planning a cruise, Disney vacation, all-inclusive resort stay, family reunion, romantic getaway, or bucket-list adventure, I’m happy to help.

My goal is simple: to create a vacation that fits your needs, travel style, and priorities.
