Your Month-By-Month Guide to Crowds, Weather, Festivals, and the Best Times to Plan Your 2026 Disney Vacation
When Pixie Dust Meets Planning: the 2026 Disney Crowd Guide

Planning a Disney vacation is equal parts magic and strategy. Love the Mouse Travel’s 2026 Crowd Calendar makes it easier than ever to choose the perfect time to visit. As a Love the Mouse Travel Agent, I’m here to further break down each season, and help you plan the most magical vacation of your life. Whether you’re chasing festivals, mild weather, or lower crowds, each season has it’s own sparkle (and a few quirks). Oh and to be clear: there are FIVE seasons – winter, spring, summer, fall, and holidays!
❄️Winter: Marathons, Art, and Lower Crowds
Best time to visit: Last week of January through Valentine’s Weekend
Best times to avoid: Marathon weekend (second weekend of January) and holidays (MLK day and Mardi Gras)

Let’s start the year off right with a trip to Disney! Well now hang on a second….the year will actually start out strong with the Marathon weekend and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day weekend. It’s important to note that there is no real true “down time” at Walt Disney World. There is always something going on, and the winter months to start the year are no exception. February is not exempt, either! You’ll need to skip pretty much from the beginning of Valentine’s Day weekend through the next weekend, because the Bayou will empty itself into Orlando to get away from Mardi Gras. This leaves the end of January and the beginning of February. But we’ll get back to that in a minute. Right after we finish discussing the cons of a winter trip!
Along with holiday crowds, January typically kicks off a heavy refurbishment season, so it is likely that some of your favorite rides will be down. Along with that, the temps are cooler. Sure, that can be a GREAT thing, until you’re in Florida and the weather drops down into the 30s! And finally, the parks close earlier in the winter months, which gives you less time in the parks.
But enough of this negativity! Let’s get into what’s great about a winter-time visit. The EPCOT International Festival of the Arts will run from January 16 – February 23, 2026. And WHADYA KNOW?! That’s mostly right there in that winter sweet spot! Think art displays, Food Studios with themed cuisine, Disney on Broadway concert series, a Figment-themed scavenger hunt, and more. The winter has a ton to offer. Some even say the Festival of the Arts is the best festival of the year.
🌷Spring: Flower & Garden and Fan-Favorite Weeks

Best time to visit: mid-April through Memorial Day
Best time to avoid: THE ENTIRE MONTH OF MARCH and the beginning of April (Spring Breakers!)
Spring is the sweet spot, offering the best that Walt Disney World has to offer. Think festivals, amazing weather, and (mostly) low crowds. But, as always, let’s get the bad stuff out of the way. Skip the entire month of March. Spring Break crowds are quite possibly the biggest next to Christmas week. Unless there is no way around it, you don’t want to visit during Spring Break!
That’s it. That’s all the bad stuff. Now let’s talk about why spring is so amazing. First, the weather. Most days you can get away with shorts during the day, and maybe need a hoodie or a light jacket in the evenings. There are fewer storms, and the weather is about as perfect as Florida weather is ever going to be. Next, there is a TON to do! There are After Hours events, longer park hours, and the EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival. EPCOT will have wall-to-wall flowers and incredible topiaries, as well as food, drink, and free concerts. Once you get past Spring Break, the crowds thin out and wait times are manageable, park crowds are considerably thinned out, and the parks are the most enjoyable they’re going to be all year long.

☀️ Summer: Sunshine, Storms, and School Break Energy
SHOCKING FACT: Summer months are the LEAST busy of the year
Best time to visit: August
Best time to avoid: July Fourth

Most people would think that the summer months would be the busiest, since the kids are out of school, but it is simply not true. June and July are busy, but manageable, and August is WIDE open. But there is a very good reason: FLORIDA SUMMERS ARE HOT. And very rainy. It will rain and it will rain nearly every single day. The heat is no joke. Our family typically visited every year throughout the school-age years in August, and it could be 115 degrees mid-day and still be in the upper 90s at night. Heat fatigue is real and dangerous.
However, the crowds? Not bad at all. The parks are also open longer, so you can break your days up with pool time and rest during the hottest parts of the day. Summer months will also offer you the most things to do, with Disney bringing back Cool Kid Summer. Smartly, a lot of activities are indoors in the blessed Florida air conditioning, too! Walt Disney World is also offering free water parks admission throughout 2026 on your check-in day, which is a great value in the summer months.
As an added bonus, Halloween festivities typically kick-off around mid-August, so if your school has a later start date, this is a great opportunity to experience Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Summer is brutally hot, but a truly great time to visit!
🍂 Fall: Pumpkins, Parties & Perfect Memories

Best time to visit: September
Best time to avoid: NEVER (But really, most of October)
My absolute favorite time to visit Walt Disney World is Halloweentime. Unfortunately, that holds true for everyone else, too. October is packed because of fall breaks in the Northeast and everyone goes to Disney. It’s also troublesome because it is hurricane season, and Florida can get messy. Finally, for non-party goers, Magic Kingdom closes early on party nights, so it can limit your parks time.
However, BOY OH BOY is there fun! Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is THE BEST event of the year. Costumes, Disney Villains, amazing entertainment, trick or treating…it CANNOT be missed! The fall also brings the EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival. October is my favorite time to visit, even though it is incredibly crowded, just for that fall feeling (of sweat dripping down your back) in the parks!
🌲🎁Holidays: The Most Magical Time of the Year at The Most Magical Place on Earth!
Best times to visit: Early November-Thanksgiving; early December
Best times to avoid: the actual holidays

Yes, the holiday season at Walt Disney World is just as magical as you imagine. The decorations are incredible, the atmosphere is jovial, and you’re at Disney! Of course, the crowds at the actual holidays are absolutely insane. The week between Christmas and New Years is wall-to-wall people, so while you may think “hmm it would be fun to wake up at Disney on Christmas morning,” remember so did the rest of the world.
But there is so much to do, it’s honestly kind of worth it! The Magic Kingdom hosts Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, where you can hang out with Mickey and the gang decked out in their holiday finest. Enjoy the Christmas parade, take in a special Christmas fireworks show, enjoy low wait times, cookies, and hot chocolate. Hollywood Studios offers Jollywood Nights, a newer special ticket party where you ring in the holiday season in 1950s style, complete with holiday decor, snow, and a holiday show starring Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy. EPCOT is home to the International Festival of the Holidays, where you can enjoy food and holiday traditions from all over the world, as well as the incredibly popular Candlelight Processional. Animal Kingdom, Disney Springs, and every single resort offers festivities to enjoy. If you love the holidays, you’ll LOVE the holidays at Walt Disney World.
